MADRID (FIBA World Championship for Women) – Amaya Valdemoro has been pouring in the points as Spain’s most explosive scorer for several years.
It’s not the points that everyone will be talking about when she arrives in Brno later this month for the FIBA World Championship for Women, though.
When the 34-year-old Valdemoro shows up in the Czech Republic, everyone will be talking about Valdemoro having joined the ‘200 club’.
The Rivas Ecopolis forward celebrated her 200th appearance for the national team on Saturday when Spain beat Mali in a friendly.
She became only the fifth player to make 200 appearances in the national team shirt of Spain.
"I have always been very ambitious," said Valdemoro, who made her Spain debut at the age of 18.
"But I never thought I would be able to play 200 games.
“When I look back at my debut, I got emotional because it has been many years."
The best player in Spanish history, Valdemoro has made a huge impact in the game.
She was named MVP of the EuroBasket Women 2007 in Italy.
Valdemoro was voted to other all-tournament teams and has clinched four EuroBasket Women medals and also represented Spain in World Championships and Olympic Games.
